BACHELOR
NAME : Bachelor
STARRING : G.V. Prakash, Divyabharathi
DERECTOR: Sathish selvakumar
IMDB : 6.4/10
YEAR : 2021
He's an aimless teenager from Coimbatore who works in an IT business in Bangalore and lives with his pals from his hometown. He is in the point of his life where he is relishing the independence of living alone, free of the constraints that living with one's family imposes. He struts around like the roosters at the mansion he shares with his pals, seemingly unconcerned. Getting a bottle to drink and grabbing a female to snog appear to be the only two things on his mind. And all he sees when he meets Subbu (Divyabharathi), a buddy of a friend who works in his workplace and is single, is a potential girlfriend. He scrounges his way into her flat and begins stalking her.
She appears to be aware to his ways, but one thing leads to another, and they are soon living together. Their racing hormones keep things hunky-dory (this isn't a romantic comedy! ), until Subbu gets pregnant. He definitely does not want to keep the baby, and she does! In fact, he is adamant that she aborts the child. Where will this jolt of reality lead them next. The film does not pass judgement on him, but rather shows him as a befuddled young man who is devoid of empathy for people around him (he seems unconcerned even when his mother and sister are imprisoned).
In summary, he is not a lovable figure, and Sathish makes no attempt to make him so. Despite some initial adoration of the character, the director balances it out by subsequently turning him into a comedy. We get to watch this man, who openly admits to masturbating many times a day, reduced to proclaiming himself impotent in a beautiful irony. And GV Prakash Kumar does a wonderful job of conveying this character's obnoxiousness.
Once the court hearings begin, the film likewise pulls the protagonists, particularly Subbu, to the background. The superb supporting cast (from Bagavathi Perumal to Arun Kumar, Dhanam, and Munishkanth) helps, but the shift in focus is still noticeable. In fact, we never witness what the emotional repercussions between the pair is like. Instead, we only get to see how it affects people around him. This is why, while being a progressive ending, it lacks impact.
